Debt can feel heavy. Some days it feels like you’re working so hard but not seeing the progress you want. If you’ve ever thought, “This is impossible. I’ll never get out of debt,” I want you to know—you are not alone.
I’ve been there, and so have so many of the women I work with. The truth is, paying off debt is not always easy, but it is possible. And even when it feels impossible, these five reminders can help you stay encouraged and keep moving forward.
🎧 I also recorded a podcast episode on this very topic, so if you’d rather listen, just hit play below:
1. Every Payment is Progress
It’s easy to think, “This payment is so small, it won’t make a difference.” But the truth is, every single dollar you put toward your debt matters.
If you pay $20 extra this month, that’s $20 less you owe—and $20 less that can accrue interest. It may not feel like much in the moment, but those little steps add up to big wins over time.
If you use a debt calculator, you can see how quickly a small amount adds up!
Even $100 a month takes years off your debt pay off journey.
Money Coach Tip: Try tracking your progress visually with a debt tracker, spreadsheet, or even a simple notebook. Watching your numbers move down can be incredibly motivating.
2. You Don’t Have to Do It All at Once
When you’re staring at a big debt balance, it’s overwhelming. The key is to stop looking at the entire mountain and focus on just the next step.
You don’t need to figure out how to pay off $20,000 right now. You just need to figure out the next $200 payment.
Some people like the debt snowball method (paying off the smallest balance first) while others prefer the debt avalanche method (tackling the highest interest rate first).
There’s no one right way—just pick a strategy that helps you take the next step forward.
Or just pick the first debt to start with. You can always change the strategy later.

3. Setbacks Don’t Erase Your Progress
Life happens.
Maybe you had car trouble, medical bills, or a tight month where you couldn’t pay extra.
That doesn’t mean you’ve failed, and it doesn’t erase the progress you’ve already made.
Debt payoff is a journey. Some months you’ll sprint, and some months you’ll just be walking—but you’re still moving forward.
If you’ve had a setback, don’t throw in the towel. Adjust, reset, and keep going. The progress you made already is still progress.
Sometimes we have to get through a season before we can start back up again. But that doesn’t erase the progress you made before.
4. Small Sacrifices Add Up
Sometimes we underestimate the power of small daily choices. But little sacrifices can create big momentum over time.
Think about it this way: If you skip one dinner out and save $50, that’s $50 more to put toward debt. Do that once a month and it adds up to $600 a year.
You don’t have to cut out everything you enjoy, but look for small, temporary trade-offs that help you reach your bigger goal.
